1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies include local storage and pixel requests. They allow a site to remember technical preferences between page views and to measure how the site is used.
Reading the guides on this site does not require you to accept any optional cookie.
2. Categories we use

4. How long cookies last
Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain for a defined period so a preference survives a return visit. Where we control the lifetime, we keep it as short as is practical.
5. Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them, block them from specific sites, or block all third party cookies. These controls are usually found under privacy or site settings, and browser help pages explain the exact steps.
Blocking all cookies may affect how some pages behave, but the guides themselves will still be readable.
6. Do not track and global privacy signals
Where a browser sends a do not track or global privacy control signal, we do not use it as permission to start any tracking we would not otherwise do. Because we do not operate advertising trackers, the practical effect on this site is minimal.
7. Changes and questions
If we introduce a new category of cookie, this page will be updated before or at the time of the change. If you want to know exactly what is stored during a visit, your browser developer tools will show it, and you can also ask us through the contact page.
